Chicopee college increases patrols after robbery


Chicopee - 11/10/08 - Elms College has increased police patrols on campus in wake of last Saturday’s armed robbery, and is also exploring other safety initiatives. Two freshmen female students and a female friend were robbed at gunpoint by two men on Springfield Street just outside the gates of the private Catholic college around 11:45 p.m. Saturday. Police are still investigating the incident and have made no arrests.

Springfield school lockdown


Springfield - 11/10/08 - An attempted armed robbery Monday morning prompted a short lockdown at Indian Orchard Elementary School. Police officials said the incident occurred about 9:30 a.m. as a 45-year-old male was walking along Worcester Street near Pinevale Street. The school was locked down for about 30 minutes as a precautionary measure.

Boston EMS Collision


BOSTON - 11/10/08 Three people were taken to a hospital on Monday after a crash involving an ambulance and an SUV in Boston. The crash happened at about 11 a.m. near the intersection of Surface Road and North Street. Boston EMS said two civilians and one recruit were taken to the hospital.

Attleboro Tanker Rollover


ATTLEBORO - 11/7/08 - A stretch of Interstate 95 southbound was closed for much of the day Thursday after a tanker truck rolled over, spilling thousands of gallons of jet fuel, injuring three people and forcing the evacuation of 14 nearby homes. State police said the truck rolled after colliding with a car about 4:45 a.m. in Attleboro, near the Rhode Island line. Northbound lanes reopened a couple of hours later, but the southbound lanes were closed until about 3:30 p.m. The truck spilled about a third of the 11,000 gallons of fuel it was carrying.

Good Sam Hospital in Brockton to get new ED


Brockton - 11/9/08 - The Emergency Department at Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton is scheduled to undergo a massive renovation. The current department is set to be refurbished and expanded within three years, now that the hospital has secured $28.5 million for the project. 

About a dozen beds added to the department, which currently has 30. More privacy in the rooms, which are currently divided by curtains. The emergency department dates back to the opening of the hospital, as Cardinal Cushing General Hospital, in 1968. The department saw 25,000 patients per year at the time. Now it sees more then 53,000.

Bridgewater-Raynham High School Lockdown


Bridgewater - 10/7/08 - School administrators locked down Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School for about 10 minutes Monday afternoon while police searched the fields around the building for a pair of suspected thieves. According to reports, school officials and Bridgewater police agreed to call the “shelter-in-place” procedure at 1:45 p.m. to secure the building as a precautionary measure. The Bridgewater Middle School was also locked down for the same period of time.
